We are looking for volunteers to help us remove a wide range of invasive species that threaten the lives of our native and nonnative collection of trees and shrubs. These invasive species grow around and strangle the trees and need to be removed so the tree can continue to grow. This is done through weeding and pruning of multi-flora rose, stilt grass, autumn olive, garlic mustard, buckthorn and more. PHA staff will help volunteers locate different areas of the arboretum where the need to remove invasive species is most critical. This is hard work, as just like all natural environments, PHA has ticks and poison ivy, so proper attire is a must! Your help in saving these trees means people will be able to enjoy the arboretum safely and learn about the trees from around the world that PHA is home to.
