Who We Are
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a registered 501(c)(3) non profit that was founded by Luke Mickelson in Kimberly, Idaho in 2012. Since then, it has spread across 41 states with 152 chapters - and we're growing. Our local chapter was started by James Welch who, after retiring from the military, was looking for his new purpose in life and happened across the story of SHP. Through his hard work and dedication, the Mechanicville, NY Chapter was born. We held our first build in December 2018 and have been building, assembling and delivering beds to children throughout the Capital District ever since. On June 15, 2019, we built 38 bunk beds in one day and have already started delivering them to children in need, with one delivery on June 19th and 20 more deliveries scheduled for Saturday, June 29, 2019. We're spreading the word, so that our base of volunteers and sponsors continues to grow, to keep up with the growing number of bed requests that come in through our website and through referrals from schools, DSS, etc. Any and all help to help us with our mission of getting kids up off the floor and into their own beds is greatly appreciated!
What We Do
We build and deliver beds to children, ages 3 - 17, who do not have a bed, anywhere within a 17 mile radius of zip code 12118 (Mechanicville, our local chapter). Our bunk beds are built from scratch by volunteers with donated supplies. The beds are delivered with mattress(es), sheets, comforter(s) and pillow(s) - everything they need for a good night's sleep. No Kid Sleeps On The Floor In Our Town.
