Volunteer Opportunities From: United Way of the Greater Capital Region

Love Your Block is partnering with Albany Barn to host an Earth Day Clean Up to make the surrounding neighborhood and streets to Albany Barn cleaner and safer for residents. Volunteers will be split into 3-4 separate groups with predetermined routes. Love Your Block will supply all necessary tools and materials. All trash bags will have designated drop off corners to be collected by the City's Department of General Services. Please arrive on time so we can assign you to a group and have everyone start at the same time. We hope to see you there to celebrate Earth Day! 

Love Your Block is partnering with Albany Law to host a Litter Pick up to help clean up the surrounding neighborhood and street to Albany Law School. Volunteers will break out into 3 separate groups with predetermined routes. Love Your Block will supply all necessary tools and materials and all garbage bags will be dropped off at designated corners for pick up by the City's Department of General Services. All participants should plan to arrive on time so they can be assigned to a group and start at the same time. The starting location will be the Albany Law School Parking Lot. 

Love Your Block is partnering with Giffen Elementary School for their annual Earth Month Garden Party to kick off their various school garden sites for the season and host outdoor environmental and gardening related educational activities. We need volunteers to help coordinate activities and engage with students along with event set up, breakdown, and event run of show facilitation. This is a great way to gain experience with children, spend time outdoors and get your hands in the dirt! 

South End Earth Day (Seed) is an annual Block Party and gardening centered event aimed at kick starting various community gardens in Albany's South End Neighborhood along with promoting environmental information and resources and of course celebrating Earth Month.

The first half of the event from 10 am to 1 pm will involve volunteering at up to 8 different community gardens to remove weeds, prepare beds for planting, pick up litter, prune back overgrowth, and transplant starts and sow seeds.

The second half will be Block Party Festivities from 1 - 4 pm with food, music, live performances, tabling, organizations, games and activities for all ages. Radix needs volunteers to assist with event set up, participate in community gardening, help with Block Party facilitation (i.e. grilling and serving food, managing waste, and handing out information and materials), and clean up after the end of the event.
