Huzzah! The City of Albany won't be giving out single use water bottles at this year's Trick or Trot 5K race on Sat. Oct 26! But they need help with their new plan.
Instead they want to use water coolers with recyclable paper cups. To help fill all those cups we need at least 6-8 volunteers to be at "watering stations" along the racing route in Washington Park from 3-6 pm. We also need at least two people collecting food scraps (apple cores, banana peels etc.) at the "after party" from 4-7 pm. College students - we need you!
This is a fun event! Feel free to come in costume. There's good music and healthy snacks (fruit) at the after-party which are free to all.
To help out, sign up on this Google spreadsheet or email Tina at info@zerowastecd.org with your RSVP. Let us know if you're signing up for water distribution or compost collection.
NEEDED at this year's Trick or Trot 5K Race:
- 6-8 volunteers to distribute water and collect recyclable paper cups in Washington Park from 3-6 pm. Meet 2:30 pm at the Washington Park entrance at Madison and New Scotland for your 3 pm shift. Look for Andre Cowan from the Albany Office of Cultural Affairs. He'll assign you to a water station along the 5K route. You'll also be given large bags to collect the cups to be recycled.
- 2-4 volunteers to collect food scraps at the after-party from 4-7 pm. Meet 3:30 pm at the Moses Statue in the park for your 4 pm shift.
DATE/TIME: Saturday Oct. 26
LOCATION: Albany's Washington Park, water pourers meet 2:30 pm at the Madison Ave Entrance; food scraps collectors meet at 3:30 pm at the Moses Statue.
NOTE: no cars will be allowed in or out of the park starting at 2:30 pm.
