Who We Are

RISSE Through Art is an art program that has been created in collaboration with RISSE and Albany Medical Center. It was created by two medical students who wanted to bring art into the language of communication for young refugees and immigrants.

What We Do

RISSE Through Art is a new art program that will be available for young students at RISSE (Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus), a support center for refugees and immigrants located in Albany. Young students are provided the opportunity to express themselves through art in a relaxed, safe, and non-judgmental space. The goal of this program is to help these young individuals grow their self-confidence and to practice self-reflection in a meaningful way.

The sessions run bimonthly on Mondays from 4:30-6:00pm. Volunteers can chose to volunteer once or twice a month.

Volunteers do not need any art experience at all, just a desire to work with empower youth in a creative, art based setting. The overall commitment is flexible and environment is laid-back!
